I'd like to bring my acting to a higher level!

This is how the 20-year-old theater-honed actress Liza Dino explained why she signed-up a few months ago with GMA Artist Center in her desire to join show business.

Acting is more of a passion for me. I want to try a different medium. I know that what I did in theater I also could do in the mainstream. Theres a new kind of fulfillment here, added the 2001 Mutya ng Pilipinas winner.

Some of her experience in acting came from her stints with U.P. Dulaang Sibols plays like Tony Mabesas Othello and the controversial Spanish play Divinas Palabras. She was also cast in CCPs Theater production of A Portrait of An Artist as Filipino. Liza even furthered her acting studies by joining the Advance TV and Film Acting Workshop held at the CCP by the Directors Guild of the Philippines.

Attending that workshop was an eye opener. It comes from one truth but the difference is the proportion. It entailed a lot knowledge that you thought you already knew like the basics of acting because you are from the theater, she said.

Since being launched recently along with other new GMA Artist Center talents like Brad and Greg Turvey and the new all-girl R&B group Flavours, she has appeared in the sitcom Dadedidodu with Vic Sotto, the tele-serye Habang Kapiling Ka with Albert Martinez and the talk show Mel and Jay. She has also recently landed a regular soap opera in Kahit Kailan where she plays one side of the love triangle with Dennis Trillo and Sunshine Dizon.

Im very happy of the chance that GMAs giving me. They are giving me a lot of training and Im glad because it is totally a different kind of medium. TV and theater, I just realized its very different. Yung spectrum pa lang kakaiba na, she quipped.

Whereas many artists would find theater acting more difficult, Liza thinks that acting for television may even be harder.

In fact I think that TV acting is more complicated than how it appears to some people. They say that theater acting is more difficult because your medium is the whole audience. Sa TV it is you and the camera. But it is hard because you have to isolate different parts of your body to effectively communicate with the camera. Even if you are acting with your hands or you have gestures, the camera could not capture that if it is focused on your face. It is more of using your eyes and bringing yourself the truthfulness of acting through that medium alone which is so hard. It is really enhancing me. Im gaining more knowledge for me to really adjust in acting in front of a camera.

Even before landing TV guestings, Liza already appeared in a movie, in Mel Chionglo Two Timer as Ara Minas best friend. …
