Lord of All Video Sales in Making; RECORDINGS OF LATEST RINGS INSTALMENT FLYING OFF SHELVES

MIDDLE-EARTH fans snapping up copies of the latest Lord of the Rings epic are putting the film on course to become one of the largest DVD and video releases ever seen in Coventry, according to shop managers.

Recordings of Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers went on sale in shops across Coventry and Warwickshire at the weekend.

Peter Jackson's record-breaking film - which is now being touted as one of the biggest home releases of the year - is the second instalment based on Tolkien's legendary trilogy.

City centre stores reported brisked sales over the bank-holiday weekend as fans queued to buy a copy of the fantasy blockbuster.

Mark Owen, manager of HMV in Hertford Street, city centre, said the film was their biggest seller of the year already.

He said: "It is easily the largest release of the year. It has gone really well. We have probably sold twice as many as Harry Potter.

"It is a fantastic film with a really great story that appeals to people of all ages. It appeals to more of a mass market.

"We knew it would be massive but we are very, very pleased with it. …
