15 Industry Sectors Post Double-Digit Output Growth

At least 15 sectors of the economy have posted double-digit growth in July this year due the expanded production capacities.

This has contributed to the increase in the value of production index (VaPI) of the manufacturing industry 12.9 percent in July this year compared to 2002, to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI) of the National Statistics Office (NSO).

The 15 sectors which exhibited double-digit increases in production include basic metals, machinery excluding electrical, wood and wood products, miscellaneous manufactures, petroleum products, textile, non-metallic mineral products, chemical products, food manufacturing and rubber products.

On a month-on-month comparison, VaPI recovered with a 1.9 percent improvement in July 2003 from its revised 0.6 percent drop in June. Only four sectors posted double-digit increases such as leather products, tobacco, electrical machinery and rubber products.
