Sex-Swop Minister Wins Right to Join Women's Institute

A FORMER church minister who is now a woman after having a sex change has won the right to join the Women's Institute.

Dian Parry - who was the bearded Rev Bill Parry until two years ago - forced a rule change in the Welsh WI after initially being thrown out.

The victory for the 61-year-old father of three adult daughters is the latest stage of the battle to be accepted as a woman.

Yesterday Miss Parry said: 'I was very nervous when I attended my first meeting but the other members made me very welcome. I am delighted and hope to play a big part in the organisation.' An earlier attempt to gatecrash a meeting of Merched y Wawr - Women of the Dawn - ended in failure. 'It was very embarrassing to be told I was not welcome but it made me even more determined,' said the ex-Nonconformist minister.

'I am now a woman and should not have been barred because I used to be a man.' The Welsh WI changed its rules after taking legal advice and consulting the Equal Opportunities Commission. Its latest recruit has paid her [pounds sterling]10 annual fee and joined the Lon Las branch, near her home in Port Talbot. …
