DENNIS WISE believes that even if he lifts the Coca-Cola Cup for Chelsea tomorrow after a match-winning performance it won't be enough for Glenn Hoddle.

The Chelsea captain has abandoned hope of playing for the England coach despite having had his best season for the club.

Yet, when Hoddle managed Chelsea, Wise was not only his skipper but also the team's heartbeat and inspiration.

There are suggestions that the pair fell out at Stamford Bridge and it seems Hoddle will not forgive Wise, even though his form entitled him to expect a call-up when the England squad was hit by 12 withdrawals against Switzerland last week.

Wise said: 'I feel I have been playing well enough to get selected. It's a disappointment, but I just don't expect it will happen now.' Asked if there had been a bust-up with Hoddle, Wise added: 'I don't really want to get into the subject. …
