Jansen and Celtic Keep Fans Guessing

THE future of Celtic coach Wim Jansen remains as shrouded in mystery as ever on the eve of the club's most important game of the season so far.

As the team prepared for their top-of-the-table clash with Hearts at Park-head, the possibility of a reconciliation in the off-field dispute between the head coach and the club over Jansen's contract was put further into doubt.

The Dutchman again refused to confirm his intention to stay beyond the end of the season - despite new talks this week.

Jansen took the unusual step of issuing a written statement through the club's PR department before his regular Friday afternoon pre-match briefing yesterday. He then proceeded to deflect any further questioning on the subject, preferring to answer only queries about the team.

The statement, which was signed by the coach in a manner which suggested that it had been drawn up and agreed with club officials read: 'I am dissa-pointed in the way that information regarding my contract has appeared in the media. I want to make it clear that I have had no part in this and at no time has the issue been about money.

'The reason I spoke out on Monday is that I wanted the truth to be known.

I asked for a clause in my contract that would enable myself and Celtic to review the situation after my first season. …
