Trail Riders Must Abide by Rules

Users of the Bureau of Land Management's off-highway vehicle trail system in the Shotgun Creek area northwest of Marcola must abide by several rules. In addition, users are encouraged to exhibit good trail etiquette and to "tread lightly" on the public lands.

Rules to remember

Ride only on trails designated as being open to your type of off-highway vehicle (quad, 4X4, or motorcycle). Trails open to ATVs (class I) are limited to those less than 50 inches wide.

All off-highway vehicles must display a current off-road operating permit.

All off-highway vehicles must be equipped with a spark arrester approved by the U.S. Forest Service.

Mufflers must meet Department of Environmental Quality noise level standards (99 decibels or less using the 20-inch test.)

Headlights and taillights are required during periods of limited visibility.

All riders under age 18 must wear a helmet.

Riders must have a valid driver's license, a Class I or III operator permit, or be accompanied by an adult with a license or permit to operate a Class I or III vehicle.
