Ford's Absent Marque at a Motor Show

MOTOR giant Ford has turned its back on the Scottish Motor Show despite it being the country's top selling marque.

Japan's Nissan company has also decided to boycott the event, claiming it has lost its appeal.

The snubs are a major blow to the Scottish Motor Trade Association, which is organising November's centenary show at the SECC in Glasgow. It will now spend a six-figure sum hiring showbiz people to attract visitors.

Ford recently asked its Scottish dealers whether they wanted backing for glitzy stands at the show or for the money to be spent on local promotional roadshows. The dealers voted narrowly for roadshows, which will allow potential buyers to drive cars rather than just look at them.

A Ford spokesman said: 'We're sad not to be there this year but the dealers decided.' Figures released last week showed Ford is still the clear market leader in Scotland, with a 15 per cent share of all new R-plated cars sold in August. …
