A YEAR ago she was thin and withdrawn as she fought anorexia and the strain of a broken marriage.

Now Victoria Spencer is in obvious good health, and looking gloriously tanned and fit. She has put on weight, and the curves that enhanced her earlier modelling career are back in evidence.

And there is a new man in her life. At last things are going right for the estranged wife of Princess Diana's brother.

The Countess's admirer is pharmacist Guy Woods - at 26, five years her junior.

They have regularly been seen together, and at the weekend ate in a pizzeria in the fashionable Cape Town suburb of Constantia, near Victoria's luxury home. Looking relaxed, and with her arm draped around his shoulders, they chatted and laughed. Victoria settled the bill.

Mr Woods works in a pharmacy owned by his father in the upmarket shopping mall in which the pizzeria is situated.

They met six months ago, and though their friendship is in its early stages, an acquaintance of the couple said: `They are very, very happy.'

Victoria arrived in South Africa with her husband and their four children a little over a year ago. Her marriage ended soon afterwards.

She lives in Silverhurst, Constantia, a high-security complex where she has a house with a swimming pool, a nanny and two servants.

Meanwhile, her estranged husband's latest liaison is said to be with Josie Borain, fashion editor on a South African women's magazine.

Earl Spencer has spent a lot of time at the 33-year-old former Calvin Klein model's home in Hout Bay, near Constantia, where she entertained Princess Diana on her recent visit.

The couple have been seen together in Hermanus, a seaside resort 70 miles from Cape Town.

Earl Spencer's former girlfriend Chantal Collopy, wife of wealthy Cape Town businessman Donald Collopy, is said to be inconsolable after the earl finished with her.

Mr Collopy has sued the earl under an ancient South African law for alienation of the affection of his spouse and causing him to suffer humiliation. Earl Spencer is defending the charge, and the case has yet to appear before the Cape Town supreme court.
