Leicester goalkeeper Ian Walker expects Robbie Savage to be 'on his best behaviour' when he returns to his former club for the first time with Birmingham in today's East v West Midlands derby at the Walkers Stadium.

Savage spent five years with the Foxes after being signed from Crewe Alexandra by Martin O'Neill, before relegation to Division One in the summer of 2002 led to his departure to St Andrew's for about pounds 2 million.

He was a key figure in Steve Bruce's side establishing themselves as atop-flight force last season and is finally pain-free after Achilles problems during the early part of this campaign.

Walker said: 'Robbie was one of the favourite players here and you know what sort of player he is. He always gives 100 per cent and I am sure he will look forward to turning us over.

'Everywhere he goes, he seems to get a lot of hassle. He does wind people up on the pitch. That's why opposition fans seem to give him a hard time. 'But when he's in your side, it's actually quite a good thing and he has done well for Birmingham City.

'Him winding up players sometimes can be to your advantage but I think he'll be on his best behaviour when he comes back to Leicester in front of all those fans.'

Walker quickly changed his perception of Savage after only a few days in the company of the Welsh international.

Like his Tottenham team-mates, Walker had been incensed at Savage in contributing to the sending-off of Justin Edinburgh in the 1999 League Cup final. Savage has since admitted that he dived.

Walker said: 'When I turned up at Leicester, I wasn't sure what he was going to be like. I was similar to a lot of other players in that all you see is Robbie running around and winding opponents up.

'It gets annoying to say the least but after a few days, I realised that he is a quiet sort of fellow, a harmless sort of guy.

'He does like to have nice things and wear nice clothes and he will tell you about it! …
