Recycle holiday trees at various locations

You can recycle your Christmas trees at these local sites:

- The McHenry County Conservation District will accept Christmas trees for recycling at the Harts Road parking area in Glacial Park, 6316 Harts Road, Ringwood or Rush Creek Conservation Area's horse trailer parking area, 20501 McGuire Road in Harvard. You can drop off trees at these locations through Sunday. All tinsel, decorations and lights must be removed from the trees. Drop-off signs will be posted. Collected trees will be processed into mulch that is available for use free. Commercial drop-offs are prohibited. For more information, call (815) 338-MCCD (6223).

- The Algonquin Township Road District will recycle Christmas trees through Jan. 31. You can drop off trees at the road district, 3702 Route 14, Crystal Lake. The location will be marked with signs and will be open 24 hours a day. Remove all ornaments, tinsel, etc. Trees will be ground into mulch which will be available free. - Cary has scheduled free Christmas tree pickups for Cary residents during January. On Jan. 15, 22 and 29, Groot Recycling and Waste Services, the village's waste hauler, will pick up Christmas trees at the curb. Like regular refuse, trees should be on the curb by 6:30 a.m. Trees must be free of all tinsel, garland, ornaments, etc. Tree pickup is free to residents; there is no need to attach a landscape bag. All collected trees will be chipped and recycled for future use.
