Festival of Trees event highlights giving

"Let Giving Guide Your Way" is the theme of this year's Festival of Trees, set for Wednesday through Sunday at the Valley River Inn.

More than 50 trees will be on display and serve as centerpieces for a variety of gifts and premiums that accompany each auctioned tree. Proceeds benefit the McKenzie-Willamette Community Health Foundation. Last year's event netted $411,000.

Admission is $5 for adults. Children younger than 12 and seniors 55 and older pay $3. Tickets are available at Umpqua bank branches and Reed & Cross.

Mount Vernon librarian earns leadership honors

SPRINGFIELD - Paulette Ansari, a librarian and media specialist at Mount Vernon Elementary School, recently received the Human Rights Leadership Award from the Springfield Alliance for Equality and Respect.
