Millennium Centre Tickets Go on Sale

Tickets go on sale today for the opening of the world's newest arts centre.

With just over 27 weeks to go until the opening weekend, and with some 400,000 tickets to sell in the first year, Wales Millennium Centre's new ticket and information Centre in Mermaid Quay in Cardiff will open its doors and open its phonelines for business at noon today.

The centre, a project supported by Lottery grant from the Millennium Commission and direct grant from the National Assembly, aims to reach an average audience capacity of 75% during its opening year.

Judith Isherwood, WMC chief executive will open the doors today and start 'festival' proceedings in the Mermaid Quay precinct with a range of street performers prepared to entertain eager patrons.

'Today marks a milestone in the history of Wales Millennium Centre.

'Over the past year, the project has moved its focus from the design and construction to delivering the artistic ambitions.

'Today, we become involved in selling our product directly to the public for the very first time, and from now on our focus will be attracting both existing arts audiences and new arts audiences to sample the world class productions that we will present. …
