CYCLO-CROSS: Helen Up to Third in World

RUGBY'S Helen Wyman has climbed to third place in the women's world cyclo-cross rankings released by the Union Cycliste Internationale.

And she celebrated with an excellent second place behind former world champion, Holland's Daphny van der Brand in the Vlaamse Druivenveldrit Superprestige race at Overijse, in Belgium, on Sunday.

Wyman finished 58 seconds down on the current world No.1 with Rugby's Victoria Wilkinson, who led the field for the first lap, a close up fourth behind Marianne Vos of Holland.

The two training partners have three more races races planned in Belgium and Germany over the busy Christmas period in the build up to the British and world championships in January.

Fourth at the European championships and sixth in each of the opening two rounds of the World Cup, Wyman has been piling up the ranking points to move up from fifth in the previous list.

"Everything is just great," said the 23-year-old of her season so far. "It's just so amazing and I am really, really pleased with everything".

Wilkinson, who clinched the overall title in the final race, and Wyman dominated the National Trophy series which ended earlier this month, both winning two of the four rounds. …
