CCP Has a New Name!

Article excerpt

The CCP Building has a new name but the man who christened it has never seen a single CCP show or performance!

Famar Pangan Santos, author of the new name of the CCP main building, does remember one CCP exhibit that he attended in honor of the late National Artist for Architecture Leandro Locsin in 1997,while doing architectural studies for a project as a student at the Don Honorio Ventura College of Arts and Trades in Pampanga.

"That day made an impact on my mind," says Famar.

"When this contest came out last year, I immediately focused on developing concepts and carefully thought of an appropriate name worthy of the Filipino spirit embedded in it."

Famar, who hails from Minalin, Pampanga, submitted the name "Tanghalang Pambansa," which topped 276 entries that the CCP received when it conducted a search for a name for the CCP main building.

The search for a name for the famous landmark designed by National Artist Leandro Locsin was in line with the CCP 35th anniversary.

The new name for the CCP main building will be reflected in all CCP brochures, performances, flyers and other related corporate literature.

"I feel humbled that my entry was chosen to be the name of this prestigious institution," says the 28-year-old Famar, a legal researcher and a member of the building committee of the Office of the Ombudsman.

Calling the CCP main building "Tanghalang Pambansa," as expressed in his rationale, is a rational way of giving indelible essence to the nations propagation of national identity and culture. …
