Bus Stop Body Dubbed 'Own Judge and Jury'

A GROUP of Coventry people have hit out at a move to refer their objections to plans for a new bus stop to the very body which wants to put the shelter up.

People living in and around Belgrave Road, Wyken, collected a petition against plans to extend the kerb to build a new bus stop which would narrow the road they claim is already an accident black spot.

Gerry Tayton, aged 70, who organised the petition, said he was confused and appalled by the decision to have Centro - the organisation which proposed to put the bus stop there - compile a report about their objections.

Mr Tayton, who has lived in Belgrave Road for 45 years, said: "I first got a letter saying our petition would go before the West Midlands Passenger Transport Authority (WMPTA), then another saying following consultation with Centro officers, it would be looked at by them and we would be advised of the outcome.

"I think it is complete nonsense they are referring it back to Centro officers who will be judge and jury in their own case. …
