Diversity and the Media: Scholarship, Strategies and Solutions, a 3rd Annual Conference sponsored by The Center for Mass Communications Research, College of Journalism and Mass Communications, The University of South Carolina, will be October 10-12, 1999.

The conference will examine how media of mass communication set public agendas involving marginalized segments of population, portrayal in media and how much progress has occurred since Gaye Tuchman conducted her landmark studies; since the Kerner Commission report revealed distorted portrayals and under representation of people of color; and since the Americans with Disabilities Act.

1st International Conference on 'Consumption and Representation' "Consuming Markets; Consuming Meanings" will be at Plymouth, UK, 2-4 September, 1999 will be international and multi-disciplinary.

The conference will address the themes of Consumption and Representation utilizing reports from the on-going work of the research group in 'Consumption and Representation' based in the Sociology Department at the University of Plymouth.
