HELPING drug-addicted women to kick the habit and get up every morning with something to live for is the objective of Claire Farrelly, who is already gleaning much satisfaction from a job she began only last November.

Claire, aged 24, is a project worker for Orbit Housing Association at the Coundon Road Women's Hostel, in Coventry, which has accommodation for up to eight female residents who are Class A drug users, such as cocaine and heroin.

The aim of everyone associated with the centre is to rehabilitate the women within 12 months, move them on to independent living and, hopefully, help them find worthwhile employment. The task is far from easy, but so enthused is Claire that she plans to further her own educationand qualifications, supported by Orbit Housing Association, by taking a course in two months time leading to an NVQ level 2 in Social Care. There are various other courses available to workers at the centre.

Educated in the town of Rugby, Claire previously worked as a lifeguard at Warwick University Sports Centre, whilst studying for a BTEC National in Sports Science at North Warwickshire College, Leamington. …
