One of the highlights of the 14th Meeting of the Directors General of Customs of the Association of Southeast Asean Nations was the colorful fiesta at Fort San Pedro dubbed "Cebu, Wealth of Wonders."

It was an evening of camaraderie and friendship among the delegates from Brunei, Singapore, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and our beloved country.

Over-all chair of the event was Customs District Collector of Cebu Lourdes V. Mangaoang.

Like any typical Filipino celebration, songs and dances were very much part of the affair, along with a magnificent display of fireworks that lit up the cloudy November sky. And of course there were lots of eats including traditional fiesta specials.


After 7 years of marriage, Pennsylvaniaa"based Maki Garcia and husband Dave Evans are expecting their first bundle of joy in February, a little princess they plan to name Chloe.

Grandparents-ina"waiting Sonny and Armi Garcia are expectedly all excited and will be jetting off shortly before the due date.


On the other hand, Makias sister Aya, a practising architect in the Big Apple, and husband Larry Shlachter, are not in a hurry to start a family although Larryas mom Barbara and stepdad Dennis Safier have been giving broad hints as to how they are looking forward to become grandparents.

Barbara was honoree at an Italian dinner tendered by Larry and Aya in New Yorkas Little Italy during her birthday last month. …
