Judges Are Well-Equipped to Pick Leadership Team

Sure, they may not have spent the year volunteering on American Indian reservations in Utah, or organizing toy drives for needy kids.

But without them, this year's Daily Herald Lake County Leadership Team wouldn't be possible.

Four community leaders from the Fox Valley area were given the task of evaluating student applications in order to select the most deserving members of this year's Leadership Team.

Dan Fox, head of the Elgin Leadership Academy; Sherry Eagle, executive director of the Institute for Collaboration at Aurora University; Kenneth Arndt, superintendent of Community Unit District 300; and Roger Breisch, executive director of the Batavia Chamber of Commerce were selected as this year's judges.

Fox taught social studies at Conant High School for 33 years, where, in 1973, he initiated one of the first mandatory student community service programs in the state.

A graduate of Northeastern Illinois, Southern Illinois and New Trier High School, Fox served on the Elgin City Council for eight years, and now serves on the board of directors for the PADS homeless shelter and Elgin Community Network. …
