Concern at New Elliott Injury

Glamorgan admit they are concerned about the fitness of Matthew Elliott after it emerged he is to undergo surgery on his troublesome knee today.

The keyhole procedure is likely to sideline the left-hander for the rest of the Australian season.

And that has raised alarm bells in the Glamorgan camp, especially as new regulations come into being this season preventing counties from replacing overseas players who get injured.

Elliott is adamant he will be fully fit for the new campaign but Glamorgan know they can not afford to take any risks with injury-prone players.

The worry is made all the more acute as it is the same knee which forced Elliott to fly home last August having only managed to play seven county championship matches.

Glamorgan - whose problems with overseas players last season was a contributory factor in their relegation from Division One with 14 defeats from 16 games - are not yet talking in terms of a replacement for Elliott, below. …
