New South Wales Wine and Dine Californians: Over 70 Australian Exhibitors Presented More Than 200 New Food and Wine Items at the Australian Specialty Foods and Wines Expo, Which Was Held in Los Angeles in January

The resounding success of last year's Australia Week activities helped participating companies secure commercial food and beverage business deals in the USA worth more than $1 million.

New South Wales-based companies such as Brookfarm, Beechworth Honey and Arrowfield Estate exhibited and sampled their products to more than 400 food and wine trade contacts, executive chefs from Los Angeles area restaurants, top caterers, large distributors, small speciality importers and trade media.

Austrade Senior Trade Commissioner in Los Angeles, Kylie Hargreaves, said that participating companies had an excellent opportunity to showcase their quality products directly to key US product buyers and gain access to a market that has nearly 42,000 supermarkets in comparison to the 3,700 in Australia.

"This event promotes the best of Australian food and beverage to distributors and buyers from supermarkets, restaurants and caterers from across the United States," Hargreaves said.

"Building on the remarkable success of Australian wines, Australian specialty food products are increasingly sought after items in the US market, offering companies exciting exporting opportunities."

Austrade's Business Development Manager for Food, Peter Brennan, had been working closely with many of the companies participating in this event.

"For US buyers the appeal of an event such as this is that they know they will see more than 200 new products which are not yet in the US market and they can taste, feel and smell all of them, all in one spot," Brennan said. …
