AWM's Global Pulling Power Boosts Jobs; ECONOMY: Regional Marketing Campaign Helps Attract Foreign Investment

A REGIONAL development agency has helped create 458 jobs in Coventry and Warwickshire.

Advantage West Midlands is responsible for attracting investment into the region.

In the past year, the agency has attracted investment from foreign-owned companies into Coventry and Warwickshire which has created 458 jobs and safeguarded 2,268.

In total, foreign investment has created 597 jobs and safeguarded 4,208.

John Edwards, AWM's chief executive, said: "Inward investment is a crucial element in the economic performance of the West Midlands and I'm delighted the agency has played a role in securing more than half of the new jobs created as a result of foreign investment.

"Our region is home to around 2,300 foreignowned enterprises employing more than 250,000 people - around one in 10 of the region's workforce."

He said the success of the West Midlands was partly because of AWM's efforts to promote the region through a regional marketing campaign - At The Heart of It All.

He added: "Overseas companies continue to view the West Midlands as a place where engineering thrives, supported by investment in research and development facilities which are now beginning to reap rewards. …
