GMA Orders Dismissal of Nursing Examiners, Revamp of Nursing Board

President Arroyo has ordered the reorganization of the Board of Nursing and the dismissal of nursing board examiners amid the controversy in the nursing licensure examinations last June, portions of which are said to have been leaked to a review center in Baguio City, Malacanang said yesterday.

Mrs. Arroyo also said an executive order is being drafted to subject all nursing review centers in the country under the regulatory powers of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Chairwoman Leonor Tripon-Ro- sero will find a solution to the nursing examination controversy, but such a solution should "punish only the guilty and spare from punishment those not involved," Mrs. Arroyo stressed.

"At kailangan, sabi ko, na magkaroon ng reorganization ang nursing board, at kinausap ko rin si Chairman (Carlito) Puno ng CHED at sinabi ko na kailangang gagawa ako ng executive order upang iyong mga review centers ng nursing board ay mapasailalim din sa regulasyon ng CHED. (What is needed is a reorganization of the nursing board. And I told Chairman Carlito Puno of the CHED that I am preparing an executive order putting all nursing review centers under its regulation)," Mrs. Arroyo said in an interview with radio station RMN-DZXL.

The oath-taking of thousands of nursing students who passed the nursing board tests last June 11 and 12 had earlier been put on hold by the Court of Appeals, pending the results of the government's investigation on the alleged leakage of some questions in the nursing board tests to a review center in Baguio City. …
