Scarlett Johansson Charms Hugh Jackman in 'Scoop'

And God Created Scarlett...

It's a classic summer dilemma: Nebbish guy meets beautiful girl--say, on a beach--and struggles to find some way, any way, to impress her. Not having washboard abs or bulging pecs or nonprescription sunglasses, he relies on what he does possess--smarts. Normally this story does not end well. But every once in a while (or so nebbish mythology tells us), the guy strives and strains to impress the girl and she, in turn, inspires him to come up with something extraordinary: a witty joke. Then the woman laughs, the two click, and something quite wonderful starts up between them.

Still, you can't help imagining that director Woody Allen has been trying harder than ever to be funny for the sake of a beautiful woman--and it's paid off. His two films with Johansson, Match Point and his latest film "Scoop," have been his best in years.

"Scoop" is described as a dangerously romantic comedy starring Hugh Jackman (as the leading man) and Scarlett Johansson. Scarlett says that she's been surprised to find that Jackman's "actually very sweet and thoughtful and romantic, in his own strange way."

Jackson says: "I can only quote myself from the movie Manhattan, Scarlett is God's answer to Job. God would say, 'I've created a terrifying and horrible universe, but I can also make one of these, so stop complaining.' "

Scarlett Johansson tops a lovely list of the "100 Sexiest Women in the World," in a poll of readers by FHM magazine for 2006.

"One of the best things for a woman to hear is that she is sexy," the 21-year-old actress, star of the romantic-comedy 'Scoop' together with Hugh Jackman, said in a statement. "I'd like to thank FHM's readers for the huge compliment."

Following Scarlett is Angelina Jolie on the 2nd position, followed by Jessica Alba, Jessica Simpson, Keira Knightley, Halle Berry, Jenny McCarthy, Maria Sharapova, Carmen Electra and Teri Hatcher.

"It's remarkable how Scarlett Johansson has caught the attention of our readers," said Scott Gramling, the magazine's U.S. editor in chief, in a statement. "Her sultry voice and striking beauty certainly have a lot to do with that, but so does the confidence she exudes."

"She seems to be one of those women who would be equally at ease on the red carpet as she would just hanging out with the guys."

With a husky voice, that she maintains through carefully smoked cigarettes, her unconventional smile and a charm that zaps fans and detractors alike Scarlett Johansson is a cinematic force of nature. At the young age of 21 Scarlett has appeared in over 20 films and is fast on her way to becoming a Hollywood legend.

"Scoop" simply captures Scarlett Johansson's amusing rhythms in a dangerously romantic-comedy that makes England look like heaven on earth.
