Orchard Road Splits Kane Board Hopefuls

The widening and construction of Orchard Road on the west side of Aurora is nearly complete.

But one Kane County Board candidate wants it sped up.

"It's taking too long, in my opinion, to do that project," John Anderson said.

The Aurora Democrat hopes to unseat Bill Wyatt for the county's District 5 seat.

The district includes parts of West Aurora, North Aurora and Sugar Grove.

Wyatt, a Republican who also lives in Aurora, said the Orchard Road project is unique because it involves cost sharing between Aurora and Kane County.

"I think we've done a really good job of involving the public every step of the way," Wyatt said, noting a monthly newsletter was distributed to nearby residents updating them on construction progress.

A large wood fence was erected on the west side of Orchard as part of the project, but Anderson said elected leaders failed to plan adequately to buffer homes near a large retention pond on the east side of Orchard, south of the fire station at Illinois Street, north of Galena Boulevard and west of homes along Independence Drive.
