Cebuano Youth Commissioner Returns from Seminar in Korea

Cebuano Michael Francis Acebedo Lopez, commissioner-at-large of the National Youth Commission, returned recently from the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) Youth Policy Seminar held in Seoul, Korea.

His presentation at the seminar focused on the gains the Philippines has made in the United Nations World Programme of Action for Youth to the 2000 and Beyond (WPAY) and the UN General Assembly Resolution 60/2 of 2005.

Assistant Secretary Lopez, the youngest appointee of President Macapagal-Arroyo, was also the youngest representative in the Conference attended by at least 15 countries from the Asia-Pacific region and other agencies in the UN System.

Each country presented its policies and programs on Globalization and Participation, Poverty, Employment, Education, Health, and other issues affecting the world's youth as outlined in the WPAY and the UN General Resolution 60/2.

The International Labor Organization (ILO), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the UNESCAP discussed issues on employment, education, poverty, and globalization.

Reports on Strategic Policy Coordination Mechanisms in the implementation of youth programs and policies applied by different youth ministries were also presented by Korea, India, Malaysia and Vietnam. …
