Dimaporo Installs Wireless Internet in Lanao del Norte; Communication Technology Important to Development

Lanao del Norte -- The province is now one of the leading provinces in information and communication technology in Mindanao.

Twenty-seven-year-old Governor Mohamad Khalid Dimaporo made this possible when he installed the WiMax ICT, a wireless internet connection with full speed internet access.

Gov. Dimaporo said that technology today is rapidly changing the world and it is inescapable for progress.

"It is either we keep up or we will be left behind, but as a governor in Lanao del Norte, I cannot allow this province to be left behind," Dimaporo said.

It was also through the help of Rep. Abdullah Dimaporo and his wife, former Lanao del Norte Gov. Imelda Dimaporo, that the computer technology in Lanao del Norte was realized.

Dimnatang Radia, Region 10 TelOF director, said the project was jointly planned, managed and implemented by the province as the lead implementing agency, the CICT (Commission of Information and Communications Technology)-TelOF as a project donor and Intel Microelectronics Phils. Incorporated has donated more than a million pesos worth of equipment of ICT.

One base station was installed at the TELOF Tubod Central Station and four computer units were installed at the provincial capitol, provincial hospital, the Mindanao Civic Center and TelOF Community e-Center in Tubod.

Regional Director Angelito Alolod of the DoST (Department of Science and Technology) presented the ICT initiatives of their office in Lanao del Norte starting from their Multi-purpose Community Telecenter Pilot Project in Malingao, Tubod, Taguitic, and Kapatagan.

"With the ICT system in place in our province, Lanao del Norte is now just a telephone call away from the rest of the world, said Dimaporo, the youngest governor in the country.

The eldest son of Congressman Abdullah "Bobby" Dimaporo and former Gov. Imelda Quibranza, the youthful governor worked with experts of ICT and held a two-day ICT forum in Tubod last September 12-13 to know the technology comprehensively which was installed recently in the province.

Gov. Dimaporo said with the facility in place, the local government of Tubod can now deliver a more improved services to its constituents through its appropriate use of ICT development and promotion of education, agriculture, public health and safety, arts and culture, local governance and other socio-economic purposes.

In the forum, the effectiveness of the computer technology was cited by using e-Skwela project in Cagayan de Oro City led by Edith Lago, in cooperation with the Alternative Learning System Coordinator of Dep Ed, Region X. …
