BRISTOL CITY 2 BURNLEY 2A STUNNING overhead kick in injury time by Clarke Carlisle earned Burnley theequaliser in a pulsating finish.

Promoted City, the only Championship team with an unbeaten record, hadthemselves pulled back from a second-half deficit with two spectacular goalsfrom their newest signing Darren Byfield.

The ex-Millwall striker, unsettled in London and stuck in the reserves, isalready an Ashton Gate hero.

Before then it had looked all over. Burnley had gone ahead from virtually theirfirst real attack 10 minutes into the second half. Wade Elliott hit the foot ofthe post as he rifled the ball in,and Andy Gray was there to ruffle it over theline for his sixth goal of the season.

But then a superb off-balance header by Byfield 10 minutes from time changedthe course of the game. As home manager Gary Johnson rejigged his formation andapproach, gambling wholly on attack, Bristol went on to take the lead withanother goal from the newcomer, this time after makeshift forward Tamas Vaskohad seen his shot well saved by fellow Hungarian Gabor Kiraly.

A game which had opened with too much tepid football had now caught theexcitement of the crowd and the final Burnley goal, based on enthusiasm as muchas anything,came as an anticlimax to the home fans.

Bristol were a transformation in the closing minutes. …
