Purse Targets Success to Lift Under-Fire Jones

Cardiff city captain Darren Purse leads the under-fire Bluebirds out against Ipswich today, demanding, "Let's win it for the gaffer!"

Boss Dave Jones' job is on the line over the next few days with good points needed against the Tractor Boys and from Monday night's trip to Leicester.

But, with Jones facing criticism from all quarters, tough-talking Purse insists the players are fully behind their manager.

"There is no point on speculating on whether he is going or not. It is only once decisions are made we have to live by them," said Purse.

"The players are 100 per cent behind the manager and now it is up to us.

"I think he is a great manager, the man to take us up. I would not have signed for the club if I did not believe that.

"It is down to us lads against Ipswich and Leicester to go out, roll our sleeves up and put in some performances for the gaffer."

And, despite the Bluebirds' lowly Championship position, Purse is still looking at the other end of the table, adding, "Why shouldn't we still go up? It is still early days in the league.

"Look at Sheffield United, they have won their last three and they are up around the play-offs, but they were down where we were.

"It shows you how tight the division is. …
