Plan for More Mobile Health Check Centres; SCREENING: Firm Wants to Site Units at Rugby Club

MORE mobile health testing centres are to be set up in Coventry by a private firm which has a contract to screen NHS patients.

Mercury Health wants to bring up to three mobile centres on to the Old Coventrians Rugby Club site in Tile Hill Lane, near the A45.

The units would offer X-rays, ultrasound, MRI scans and endoscopy to patients referred to the service by their GPs.

The service will be open long hours for people who want to fit appointments in around the working day.

They will be open from 7.30am until 8.30pm, up to four days a week, including Saturdays, but not Sundays or Bank Holidays.

The firm has a five-year contract with the Department of Health to provide 190,000 tests across the whole of the West Midlands.

It has applied for planning permission and Coventry City Council's planning committee will make a decision on Thursday. Officers are recommending permission be granted. …
