Mayor Leads Town in Memory of Holocaust Atrocity Victims; HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY REMEMBER, REFLECT, REACT

SOUTHPORT hosted its own service yesterday, in memory of the Holocaust, at the Gardens of Remembrance in the town.

It was organised in conjunction with Sefton Council and the Southport Branch of Association of Jewish ex-servicemen and women (AJEX).

The Mayor of Sefton, Cllr Richard Hands attended the event, and Getrude Lipson, from Southport, who lost family in the Holocaust, was also among those at the event.

Councillors and chief officers of the council also attended the memorial ceremony in Southport as well as members of the public, and took part in a minute's silence.

A book of condolence for people to sign after the service was located in the town's Arts Centre, and a book of remembrance will be opened today in Ellesmere Port and Neston, as people from Cheshire come together to mark the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz - Birkenau.

Pupils and teachers from local schools will join dignitaries, including Cheshire County Council Chairman Neville Price and Ellesmere Port & Neston Mayor Cllr Ted Lloyd. …
