Solon Pushes Upgrade of Retired Judges' Pension

Stressing that fairness should be granted those who mete out justice, a neophyte congressman has urged his House of Representatives colleagues to support his bill seeking to upgrade the monthly pension of retired judges of inferior courts.

In pushing for the approval of House Bill 3071, Rep. Ronald Singson (Lakas, Ilocos Sur) said the amount of monthly pension granted retirees of Regional and Municipal Trial Court branches has been overtaken by the rising cost of living, thus, is no longer sufficient for many of them to afford a decent living that would befit their social standing in the community.

Singson said HB 3071 seeks to compensate the retired lower court judges for their valuable contribution to government service, especially in dispensing with justice.

Entitled "An Act Upgrading the Monthly Pension of Retired Judges of Inferior Courts," HB 3071 makes it mandatory for the judiciary to grant an automatic adjustment of the monthly pension received by retirees whenever there is a hike in salaries of judges who are still in active service. …
