IT is with a sense of deep humility that I accept the mandate as the new Lakas-CMD President. The shoes of my predecessor, former Speaker Jose de Venecia, were gigantic in terms of having co-founded this political party in 1992 and remained its president until today. And while most of us may disagree with his "political posture" today, I must ask all our party mates to accord to him the due respect that he right- fully deserves.

Time always heals political wounds. Assuming the presidency of a political party that has a rich history and a track record of electing two presidents of the Republic, is both a personal and a political challenge as well as a milestone in my political career. I shall endeavor to be equal to the task through hard work and prayers.

Lakas-CMD started small in 1992 amid a broad coalition of many groups of different political persuasions. It broke away from the political traditions of the past and the destructive habits of the old political system. We cannot be devoured by that again.

Today, we are the broadest and the biggest dominant majority party of the Republic. The biggest political party of the administration. Today, we remain bound through all these years by common political interests based on a common hope and a shared vision for the national interest. Today more than ever, we are committed to support the administration of our leader, her excellency Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Today, we re-affirm our sacred commitment, that despite all the" political noise" and all the political mud splashed all over our country, we shall uphold the Constitution and support the duly constituted authorities under the rule of law. …
