Friends yesterday paid tribute to a 18-year-old boy stabbed to death yards from his front door.

Student Frederick Moody was knifed in the stomach in an attack in Guildford Road, Lambeth, south London.

Detectives arrested a 16-year-old at his home in nearby Brixton yesterday.

Neighbours said the victim's mother was "beside herself" with grief.

Vida Oblitey, 52, who described "Freddy" as like a son to her, said she had been with his mother when he died in hospital.

She said: "Freddy was a very handsome boy, a lovely boy-and whoever has done this has taken the only son away from a very happy family."

Freddy was found fatally wounded by police called to an assault at 7pm on Thursday.

Police are investigating whether his attacker called at his house first.

Neighbours reported an argument.

Paramedics tried to save Freddy and he was taken to St Thomas' Hospital but died an hour later.
