For its second program of the year, Northern Illinois University Opera Workshop presents a concert highlighting great moments from three centuries of Italian opera.

Performances are at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, in the Recital Hall in the Music Building, at 550 Lucinda Ave., on the NIU campus in DeKalb.

A duet from Donizettis "The Elixir of Love" and Rossinis "Cat Duet" are the 19th-century offerings, and the evening concludes with excerpts from two one-act operas by Puccini the tragic "Suor Angelica" and the comedy "Gianni Schicchi."

Throughout the year, NIU Opera Workshop gives undergraduate and graduate voice students opportunities to gain singing and acting experience in a variety of repertoire. The program is co-directed by conductor Lucia Matos and stage director James Tucker, with assistance from faculty pianist William Koehler and graduate accompanist Andreea Zaharia.
