Peace Negotiations with MILF to Resume Soon

Peace negotiations between the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the government will resume soon, with the Philippine panel vowing to negotiate “within the legal and constitutional parameters” this time. In a recent briefing attended by members of three House of Representatives committees, Undersecretary Rafael Seguis, chairman of the GRP panel, said that the only pending action being awaited by the negotiating panels is that of an invitation from the Malaysian facilitator. Seguis said MILF has aired preference for a Malaysian facilitator for the re-negotiations. Seguis, together with Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process (OPAPP) Secretary Avelino Razon Jr., appeared before the members of the House Committees on Muslim Affairs, Mindanao Affairs, and Special Committee on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity to brief the congressmen about the developments in the planned peace re-negotiations. Seguis said the GRP panel intends to “renegotiate within the legal and constitutional parameters and those set by the Supreme Court. …
