CAMPAIGNERS will make their final bid today to save beds for mental health patients in Nuneaton and North Warwickshire.

A lengthy public consultation period has been completed and health chiefs will now decide whether to close Avenue Clinic and move the bedded facility to the Caludon Centre in Coventry.

"We have protested long and hard against this proposal," said Karen Cort, from Voices 4 Choices. "We have collected more than 2,000 signatures from people who want the beds to stay in Nuneaton.

"We have agreed with most of the suggestions for improving mental health in North Warwickshire, but having the nearest bedded unit as far away as Walsgrave is a backward step.

"I hope our views, and those expressed by people at the consultation meetings, will be taken notice of and the decision had not already been made." The Voices 4 Choices petition will be handed over to members of the Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust board before this morning's meeting at the Caludon Centre. …
