TYLER JOHNSON'S splendid brace allowed Walsgrave Juniors to snaffle an invaluable three points as they eased out a spirited Brinklow 3-1 at Walsgrave Primary School.

Johnson's double capped a thoroughly impressive performance from the playmaker, with his strike being backed up by Jack Davis' opener and outweighing Teddy Vincent's second-half consolation for the visitors.

The game burst into life within the opening minute, as Brinklow's Joe Augusts thundered a left-foot shot narrowly wide of the post, before Walsgrave grabbed the lead from their first foray into Brinklow's half.

A smart one-two between Davis and Johnson allowed Davis to hold off the challenge of William Wallace and arrow a shot across Haydn Wilson and into the bottom corner to edge the hosts ahead.

And Walsgrave doubled their lead just three minutes later, when Conor O'Donnell pounced on Wilson's miscued free-kick and played in Johnson, who dribbled past Ben Sotek before slipping the ball underneath Wilson to make it 2-0 inside the opening exchanges.

Wilson then atoned for his error as Davis unleashed a wonderful strike that looked destined for the top corner, but somehow the stopper scrambled across his goal and flipped the ball up and over the crossbar to safety.

The save sparked Brinklow into life and Wilson's opposite number Joe Parham was called into action for the first time when he produced a brave double-save to foil Sotek from close-range, while Bailey Wiggett poked a shot at Parham shortly after.

Walsgrave hit back, and a great passing move involving Harry Crampsie, O'Donnell, Hanish Puwraha and Johnson teed up Davis, who looped an effort against the top of the crossbar.

But the hosts were then grateful to three last-ditch tackles in quick succession from the alert Josh Tipple, who denied Augusts when he was set to pull the trigger, before thwarting Vincent twice in as many minutes as Brinklow sought to get back into the match.

However, Walsgrave all but finished the match as a contest inside the second minute of the second period, as Johnson's shot from distance squirmed through Wilson's grasp and nestled into the corner of the net after a little help from the post. …
