EU Reaffirms Commitment on ODA to Developing Nations

The European Union (EU) Tuesday expressed commitment (ODA) to continuously provide official development assistance to developing countries, but lamented that amid the flow of aid, most of the developing countries failed to lift their people out of poverty.Director-General Koos Richelle of the European Commission's EuropeAid Cooperation Office said despite the flow of development assistance, developing countries did not manage to improve their socio-economic situation."We are committed to provide more assistance. We promise to raise the volume of aid to 0.7 percent," he said addressing the first leg of the two-day ASEM conference on sustainable development which is being participated in by 184 senior officials from the ASEM governments, international organizations, and civil organizations.But, "in the last 50 years,not a single country has been lifted out of poverty as a result of development aid.
