KEVIN WHITE speaks to Tim Pritchard, director of family motor firm Slaters, who have showrooms accross North Wales. Here Tim talks about the Llanwnda and Llangefni branches.

Q

How long have the Slaters branches at Llanwnda and Llangefni been open, and how long have you been in the industry for?

I joined the company as part of our expansion into Gwynedd and Anglesey in 2006. Slaters decided to branch out from our Abergele/Colwyn Bay heartland in order to be able to offer more of North Wales our services.

I'm an Anglesey lad, originally from Gwalchmai and I've been in the industry for over 40 years, mainly in the Anglesey motor trade. I started my career at the Automobile Palace in Llanfairpwll in 1969.

I also worked for General Motors for five years across Ireland.

Q How many staff do Slaters employ?

Our Llangefni and Llanwnda branches employ over 40 people. In terms of the group as a whole, it now numbers over 250 staff working across all parts of the business.

We are ostensibly a family owned company, Slaters was founded in 1918 in Abergele and was taken over by the Great Great Grandfather of director Nigel Knowlson in 1923.

Q Which brands do the Llangefni and Llanwnda branches specialise in?

For new cars, we stock the General Motors brands, Vauxhall, Chevrolet and Saab, but when it comes to used cars, as we are also a Network Q dealer, and we can stock anything from Fiats and Skodas, to Peugeots and Citroens.

Q What's the best car you have driven?

There have been so many that I've driven over the last 40 years, I couldn''t possibly single one out! …
