QC Okays P2,000 Allowance for Public School Teachers

The Quezon City Council, in order to help improve the country’s educational system, has approved a resolution granting a P2,000 monthly instructional and teaching materials allowance for the city’s public school teachers.Councilor Bernadette Herrera-Dy of the first district of Quezon City said providing the school teachers with adequate teaching aids will hopefully bridge the gap  on the quality of education between public and private schools.“It is important for teachers to be provided with adequate educational materials to promote better learning opportunities for the public school students,’’ Herrera-Dy said.Parents of public elementary and high school students have complained about the lack of instructional materials which they described as a “big drawback’’ in their children’s quest for academic excellence.Compared to topnotch private schools, public school students have generally paled in comparison in academics with their counterparts not because they are less intelligent but because they sorely lack proper educational materials to meet the demands of quality education.The parents added that public school teachers are too worn out to impart knowledge when they are ill-equipped with even the basic teaching necessities. …
