The School, which has achieved four ratings of "excellent" for teaching quality, offers a wide range of traditional, high-quality undergraduate degree courses. Most courses can be accessed via the foundation year option if students have not taken the correct subjects for engineering. Many courses also include options such as a year in industry, a year in North America or a year in AEROSPACE ENGINEERING The aerospace industry is one of the most technically advanced, challenging and exciting industries there is. The UK aerospace industry is the second largest in the world, and Wales is a major player in this sector. More than 200 companies employing 20,000 people are located in Wales, resulting in a combined annual turnover of pounds 2bn. More than 30% of employees in the aerospace sector are educated to degree level or higher. Studying aerospace engineering prepares students for the design, analysis, and testing of aerospace vehicles - including satellites and space stations, as well as propeller-driven and jet-powered airplanes, helicopters and even gliders.

The degree courses give a broad multidisciplinary aerospace education, enabling students to specialise in communications, management, materials, power electronics and propulsion sciences applied to aerospace.

MEDICAL ENGINEERING Medical engineering is the application of engineering principles to both the human body and to a broad range of instrumentation used as part of modern medicine.

This multi-disciplinary scheme exposes students to a broad range of activities; from the design of prosthetic devices and new biocompatible materials, to the study of the behaviour of complex bio-molecules and fluids within the body. The degree has three engineering themes running through it i) mechanical engineering/ materials design, ii) instrumentation looking at advanced diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, and iii) bioprocesses, looking at physical and chemical processes occurring within the body. Running throughout the course is a strong clinical theme, including case studies within engineering modules and specifically designed biological and clinical modules for engineers taught within the Medical School. Opportunities for graduates are excellent and are likely to increase as the interface between Engineering and Medicine grows.
