Mindanao Stakeholders Seek Improvement of Watersheds

BUTUAN CITY – Officials of the Mindanao Business Council (MBC) and top Mindanao leaders are urging the national government and all concerned sectors to unite in improving the watershed surrounding Agus Lake and the Pulangi Hydro Complex to avert more power crisis in the southern island.The officials and business groups also asked the government and multi-sectoral water and forest protection bodies to activate the watershed management committees for strict implementation of laws, rules, and regulations of the Lake Lanao and Pulangi watersheds – prime sources for the Mindanao grid.The immediate action plan was proposed after top officials of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) and MBC, led by Chairman Jesus G. Dureza and Vicente Lao, respectively, personally conducted onsite inspections of the two hydroelectric plants last week.They said there is a need for an immediate action in improving the watershed management surrounding the Agus Lake and Pulangi Hydro Complex to avert the worsening power crisis.They further said there is no problem on the structure of the facilities. …
