NORTHERN have vowed to play on as star batsman Chris Tipper fights for his life.

The 20-year-old Moor Park player is recovering in a Redditch hospital after being seriously hurt in a motorway crash last Sunday night.

Tipper, who signed for the Crosby side this summer, has been visited by team-mates in recent days and is understood to have made progress.

The accident happened on the M42 in the Midlands as he drove from Gosforth in the North East to Worcester to play for Lancashire second XI.

Tipper had top scored with 60 earlier in the day in Northern's ECB Club Championship quarter-final defeat at the hands of South Northumberland.

Despite the impact on everyone connected with the club, Northern captain James Cole has opted to press ahead with Saturday's trip to New Brighton in the Liverpool Competition Premier League.

Cole confirmed to the ECHO their fixture with the third placed Wirral side would go ahead, though Northern cricket chairman Phil Cooper admits the players have been affected by Tipper's condition.

"Obviously all of us at Northern have been affected by what has happened to Chris, it came as such a shock," offered Cooper. …
