MANILA, Philippines - The Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP), the biggest organized group of Catholic schools in the country, begins its three-day National Convention today (Wednesday) with the theme "A Heart for Eden, A Hand at Ecology" in Cebu City.The Convention provides a venue for member schools to share best practices in integrating concepts and principles of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into their curriculum and administration, and implementing environmental advocacy programs and campaigns.It will seek to determine ways for CEAP and member schools to critically engage various sectors of society in the pursuit of a genuine national reform agenda for ESD, and the protection, conservation, and preservation of the country's environment and natural resources. And it hopes to recommend measures for more efficient and effective advocacies and services to members and partners in the international national, and local communities.A Eucharistic celebration to be officiated by His Eminence, Ricardo J. Cardinal Vidal, D.D., Archbishop of Cebu, will usher in the convention. The event will also feature an exhibit of products and services and schools' best practices in environmental protection; talks on the "Situation of the Environment: Global and National Challenges" and "Forming Advocates for the Environment"; forums on best practices on environmental protection and conservation, and meetings with representatives of United Nations agencies, non-government organizations, and foreign embassies in the Philippines on funding opportunities for environmental programs and projects; a film festival on environment and ecology; and the election of new members of the board. …
