Dengue Cases Rise in Caraga

BUTUAN CITY - Eight persons died of dengue fever in the Caraga region while a total of 2,369 cases were admitted in different hospitals in the region from January to Oct. 8 this year, health officials reported Thursday.Records from Department of Health (DoH) Caraga showed that the number of cases was 174 percent higher compared in 2009 when only 853 cases were recorded.Northeastern Mindanao (Caraga region) DoH Regional Director Dr. Leonita Gorgolon, said there was one dengue death in Cabadbaran town and Magallanes town, both in Agusan del Norte, another in San Francisco, in Agusan del Sur; one in Del Carmen town and one in Malimono town, both in Surigao del Sur; one in Bayugan, Agusan del Sur and two in Surigao City.The region's health official said Butuan City remains the top area with most dengue cases at 753 but with zero fatalities, followed by Agusan del Sur with 447 cases, Surigao del Norte with 285 cases and three fatalities, Surigao City with 194 cases and two deaths, Agusan del Norte with 187 cases and one death in the municipality of Magallanes, Bislig City with 171 cases, Surigao del Sur with 164 cases, Bayugan with 74 cases, Cabadbaran with 43 cases, Dinagat Islands Province with 36 cases while Tandag is with only 15 cases.
