MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) observes United Nations Week in the third week of October every year. DFA celebrates this occasion with exhibits and forums focusing on United Nations goals, such as gender equality and the empowerment of women, reduction of poverty, providing universal primary education, and halting the spread of Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS).The United Nations (UN) has promoted the observances of events as vehicles to promote the attainment of United Nations goals, promote global awareness of and action upon important socio-politico-humanitarian issues, and provide venues that would stimulate local and national interest in United Nations activities and programs. It was founded in October 24, 1945, by 45 countries committed to promoting international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations, and promoting socio-economic progress and human rights. There are 192 Member States of the United Nations today. …
