MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino has declared December 11, 2010, Saturday, as Barangay Assembly Day across the country wherein citizens can interact with their village officials.In Proclamation No. 74, the President directed all city and municipal mayors to ensure compliance of all barangays and maximize participation in the synchronized barangay assembly early next month.The President added that mayors should make rounds of barangay assembly conducted in their respective jurisdiction.The Local Government Code of 1991 requires the conduct of synchronized barangay assembly twice a year to hear and discuss the semestral report of the sangguniang barangay concerning its activities and finances, as well as problems affecting the barangay.Proclamation No. 342 was issued in 2003 declaring the first Saturday of March and third Saturday of October as "Synchronized Barangay Assembly Days."The synchronized barangay assembly slated last month did not push through due to its proximity to the October 25 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, the proclamation read. (Genalyn Kabiling)AIR FORCE INAUGURATES AIRCRAFTMANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Air Force (PAF) inaugurates Monday the second batch of newly acquired SF-260 basic trainer aircraft from Marchetti Corporation of Italy.Four new SF-260 planes will be blessed Monday in simple ceremonies at the Haribon Hangar of the 410th Maintenance Wing, Clark Air Base, Pampanga.The acquisition of the 18 basic trainer aircraft is a modest modernization for the PAF and a big boost to PAF's capability to train PAF pilots.The increase in the number of SF-260FH fleet and positive changes made in improving the training curriculum for pilot training will further enhance and develop pilots professionally and keep them up to date with the changing times and advancements of technology in accordance with the PAF's thrusts in contributing to peace and development of the country. …
