John Pellitier, of Pellitier and Pellitier Landscape Architecture and Interior Design, was appointed by Gov. Ted Kulongoski to a second four-year term for the Oregon State Landscape Architect Board. The board is responsible for monitoring health, safety and public welfare in the practice of landscape architecture.

Bi-Mart Corp. received the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Emerald Award for Community Caring. Ninkasi Brewing Co. received the Emerald Award for Growth. Bulk Handling Systems received the chamber's Innovation award and Organically Grown Co. received the Award for Environmental Values. King Estate Winery was previously announced as the Business of the Year.

Joyce Garibay has been elected to the American Association of Medical Assistants board of trustees through 2012. Garibay served as program coordinator of the Medical Office Assistant Program at Lane Community College from 1990 through 2003. She is office manager for Springfield general surgeon Snell Fontus.

Burley Design received the EUROBIKE Gold Award for its recently introduced Travoy Urban Trailer System. The award was announced at the organization's annual trade show held in Friedrichshafen, Germany. Twelve gold awards were given out of 565 entries; Burley was the only U.S. company to receive one.

Arcimoto, the Eugene electric car maker, won the regional finals of the CleanTech Open national business competition, advancing the company to the national competition. The company was founded by Mark Frohnmayer.

The Eugene Cascade Lions Club has elected their 2010-2011 officers. Oakridge City Administrator Gordon Zimmerman has been named to The League of Oregon Cities' board of directors.

Court Appointed Special Advocates has dedicated its Foster Families Clothing Closet to the employees of Umpqua Bank, saying that it is because of their dedicated efforts that CASA is able to keep this community resource open for foster families in need.
